Rabiul Awwal Moon Not Sighted, Eid-i-Miladun Nabi on September 17.
The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced on Wednesday that the moon for the Islamic month of Rabiul Awwal was not sighted. As a result, the month of Rabiul Awwal will officially start on Friday, September 6, 2024, and the celebration of Eid-i-Miladun Nabi will take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
Announcement Details
The announcement was made following a meeting of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, in Islamabad. The meeting included religious scholars from various schools of thought as well as weather experts. They thoroughly discussed the reports and confirmed that no reliable sightings of the moon were received from across the country.
Chairman Maulana Azad stated during the press conference:
"Reports of the moon sighting were not received, and it was unanimously decided that the 1st of Rabiul Awwal will fall on September 6, Friday, and the 12th of Rabiul Awwal will be observed on September 17, Tuesday."
He added that the committee always aims to make decisions based on consensus, ensuring that they follow visual testimonies and adhere to Islamic law. However, he also noted that cloudy weather often makes moon sighting difficult, which was the case during this particular observation.
Importance of Eid-i-Miladun Nabi
Eid-i-Miladun Nabi is one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), who is deeply revered by Muslims all over the world. In Arabic, this event is referred to as Mawlid al-Nabawi.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, and Muslims celebrate this day by holding special prayers, gatherings, and events that highlight his teachings, life, and legacy. Throughout Muslim-majority countries, people organize processions, decorate streets, and distribute food and sweets to celebrate the occasion. It is also a time for reflection on the Prophet’s (PBUH) message of peace, compassion, and love for humanity.
Celebrations and Traditions
Muslims around the world celebrate Eid-i-Miladun Nabi in various ways:
Mosques: Mosques are decorated, and special gatherings are held to recite Naats (poems in praise of the Prophet) and Durood (prayers of peace upon the Prophet).
Processions: In some regions, people participate in processions through the streets, often carrying banners and green flags symbolizing love and respect for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Charity: Charity and good deeds are encouraged during this time. Muslims often distribute food, clothes, and other essentials to the less fortunate as part of their celebration.
Lectures and Seminars: Many communities hold educational lectures and seminars discussing the life, teachings, and importance of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the modern world.
Family Gatherings: Families come together to pray, discuss the life of the Prophet, and reflect on how they can implement his teachings in their everyday lives.
Conclusion
With Rabiul Awwal beginning on September 6, Muslims across the world will prepare to celebrate Eid-i-Miladun Nabi on September 17, a day dedicated to the memory of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birth and the profound impact he had on the world. This day serves as an important reminder to follow his teachings of kindness, humility, and love for all of humanity.
